Kincaid Barn in The Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area of Boonton Township.
The scope of this project consisted of rehabilitating the dilapidated Kincaid Barn Site in the Pyramid Mountain area of Boonton Township. The project site was overgrown, the existing barn was collapsing, and there was a poor soil bearing condition.
The old barn was to be dismantled, and at the request of the owners, the components needed to be salvaged for historical purposes. The new barn was to be constructed on top of a new foundation and slab. The building was framed using 10” x 10” treated Southern Yellow Pine posts and beams. The new posts and beams were fastened together using custom fabricated ½” thick steel brackets. None of the components of the structure were stock items at any building supply company, so accurate procurement was critical. Every stick of lumber, every connection, and every nut, bolt, and nail required was engineered in our office so that once the project started the field staff had every component necessary to complete the project without delays due to material shortages.
The project was completed in 51 days – 9 days sooner than was required. We were able to complete the project ahead of schedule because of the planning and communication with field staff that was done before a shovel was ever put into the ground. Our ability to complete each phase of construction using in-house staff allowed us the control to provide adequate manpower for each phase.
